About Katharina Rooney

Getting lost in the process of drawing, painting or building is one of my favorite aspects of creating art. The possibilities are endless and life is good.

My art is varied. ColorCycle is an invitation to contemplate the beauty of abstraction, light and recycled CD cases. Ceramic vessels may emulate natural forms or highlight influences from Secession artists during the late 1800's and early 1900's in Vienna.  My "flying ear" was  inspired by the story behind a famous song (Volare) and constructed using wire hangers and fabric scraps.

I studied art and design at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and ceramics at the Academy for Applied Arts in Vienna, completing graduate studies at the University of Illinois.

My ceramics, sculptures and installations have been shown nationally and internationally and are in private collections and galleries. I've taught ceramics, drawing and design at Keene State College, the University of Illinois and New Hampshire Institute of Art.  In 2018 I received a Ewing Arts Award in the Three Dimensional Fine Arts category.

I enjoy public art projects and encouraging people to dive in and fearlessly explore new processes to create art. Collaborating with other minds widens perspectives and therefore makes each experience richer and fuller.
